ZERO'S NEW FIREPROOF STC 3003 SOUND SHEET FOR
DOORS AND WALLS HELPS REDUCE NOISE
Bronx, N.Y. -- Zero International has introduced a fireproof,
lead-free intumescent sound barrier engineered to improve the sound ratings
of both new and in-place doors -- without compromising existing
fire-protection performance. STC 3003 SOUND SHEET barrier is
fire-rated INTUMET™ intumescent material that acts as a thin, dense
sound-damping layer. Nearly as effective as lead in stopping the
transmission of sound, it can increase door STC values by up to six points.
SOUND SHEET is suitable for layering during the construction of acoustical
doors. In some cases, it can be applied as an outer layer to existing doors,
provided it is properly installed with trim strips over its seams. SOUND
SHEET can also be installed in walls prior to sheet-rock application for
improved noise reduction.
Zero offers a full line of acoustical gaskets and sealing
systems that are known for both quality and exceptional sound performance.
The development of SOUND SHEET barrier addresses the limitations of using
even the best gasketing to solve noise problems when the door itself is not
an effective sound barrier. For example, 30-32 STC (sound transmission
class) sound ratings are typical of 1 3/4" particle-core wood. And hollow
metal doors with honeycomb or styrene core usually provide no better than a
37 STC rating--short of the sound control levels needed for comfort and
privacy. Zero's Engineering Department can assist in evaluating
possibilities for enhancing the performance of low-rated doors by adding one
or two layers of SOUND SHEET.
STC 3003 SOUND
SHEET is easy to install on existing doors using a variety of methods, such
as glue or staples, and can be painted with latex paint. Because it contains
no lead, it is also safe to use. SOUND SHEET is available in black, red,
brown, silver and white colors, and in thicknesses of 1/16, 1/8, 1/4 and 3/8
inches.
