ZERO'S NEW PHOTOLUMINESCENT PRODUCT LINE
SATISFIES NEW YORK CITY BUILDING CODE MANDATES FOR EXIT PATH MARKINGS
Bronx, N.Y. -
Zero International has introduced a full line of Photoluminescent
Stairway Marking Systems to facilitate safe emergency exits during
building evacuations when power and back-up power systems have failed. The
new Zero systems are designed for compliance with Building Code Standard RS
6-1/1A of New York City Building Code Section 27-383(b) for photoluminescent
exit path markings adopted in May, 2005, for both new construction and
renovations. They also meet equivalent fire code requirements nationwide.
The NYC standard calls for luminescent signs and markings to show outlines
of egress path, stairs, handrails and obstacles. Zero's solutions to these
requirements include a variety of self-adhesive signage and marking systems
designed for specific uses, as well as non-slip TRACTION TREAD™
GLOW stair
nosings featuring profiled grooves with rubber inserts for both sure footing
and aesthetics.
Photoluminescent
material is charged by exposure to ambient light and emits luminescence
after the activating light source is no longer available. Code requirements
specify low placement of photoluminescent markings and signs for visibility
in smoke and crowded conditions.
Zero's TRACTION
TREAD™
GLOW stair nosings are recommended for high-traffic installations that
demand maximum non-slip safety. The photoluminescent markings are integrated
in the outside four grooves as installed on the stair step. Available in
standard aluminum or bronze finishes, TRACTION TREAD systems can be used as
well for door saddles, and epoxy inserts are available for outdoor
applications. They also provide an aesthetic solution to ADA requirements
for detectable warnings on stairs and hazardous surfaces. With no raised
ribbing and no open grooves to trap dirt and water, TRACTION TREAD provides
exceptional durability and easy maintenance. And they are designed for easy
cutting and drilling onsite.
Zero's other photoluminescent marking systems feature aluminum
backing and foam tape for superior adhesion to the uneven surfaces,
including brick, found in many buildings. That backing system consistently
outperforms typical vinyl materials, which are best applied to smooth, clean
surfaces. Zero marking systems can also be mechanically fastened, if
preferred.
Zero offers
L-shaped side-edge stair markings, which meet the minimum requirement for
existing buildings, as well as luminescent strips along stair and landing
leading edges for maximum visibility. Additional markings are available for
floor and exit door demarcation and to identify obstacles along the egress
route. Zero offers an ultra-thin, contoured hand rail marking system with
beveled-finish edge for maximum durability and hand grip comfort.
A series of
eight directional signs available from Zero can assist in moving crowds
toward safe exits. Additional signs identifying intermediate and final exit
doors are intended for mounting on either the door or adjacent wall.
